Act Of War Gold Edition Review

This package is actually two seperate boxes and you have to install both products one at a time. I was hoping it would be everything all in one big install.
Also, while the expansion adds some nice features like mercenaries, it changes many of the core mechanics like how you heal soldiers or repair vehicles and also construction of jets. If you are like me and got used to the orignal rules, the changes may be annoying.

Overall Act of War is one of the best RTS's ever made. Gameplay is top notch and there was a lot of effort put into production. All three sides are well balanced and fun to play. Resourcing is kept simple as is the tech tree. There are no unit limits or population points. So long as your computer can handle it you can have thousands of units in play at one time. This game focuses more on action and less on base-building than most similar titles.

Its a shame Act of War gets overshadowed by more popular games. More people should play it and this is a great way to start. A reasonable price for both the original and expansion.

Were I a member of the gaming Industry right now, I would be shamed to be taught what gaming should look and feel like and how it should be marketed by a small Eastern European company. Who of the multi-billion gaming "giants" ever went back to improve a released game? Yet, there you have it: thanks to CDPROJECT gaming as an art-form is still alive and kicking!

This was the most awaited fantasy cRPG in the past 3 years. Not only did the original deliver, but even more work has gone into truly improving it.
THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL cRPG GAMES I HAD EVER PLAYED - AND NOW IT IS GORGEOUS!

The environments are detailed, realistic, and can be experienced from up close. Grass, flowers and tree branches moved in both FABLE and TITAN QUEST as well; these, however, seem so true I caught myself reaching for my...antihistamines! Weather affects and day-night alterations (you have to see the elongating shadows to believe them!) are just gorgeous! More importantly, these are not just eye-candy: certain NPCs and monsters appear only when the correct combination of time-of-day and weather coincide...The horizon is far and the clouds move in endless variations. It reminded me of the sky of the original UNREAL, another visually ground-breaking game at its time. PURE VISUAL MAGIC!

The character (Geralt) can master both sword-fighting and magic spells (what is known as a Warlock). To some die-hard RPG fans this may seem like heresy, nevertheless, keep in mind that multi-classing is not unheard off. The movement repertoire for both practices are impressively designed. Especially the sword-fighting, it is at par to any console action game. And the spells (both offensive and defensive ones) are not less impressive.

Free roaming? Yes and no. One can decide which parts of the map he will visit but loading is still needed to travel even annoyingly short distances. And since quests and side-quest still have to be completed, yes, eventually a subtle, yet ever present, directionality is present.
Looting and bartering? Aaah...yes, sort of. You practically never change the sword you start off with (although you do get to improve its abilities), whereas good armor is only a little easier to come by compared to PLANESCAPE. On the upside, you get to gamble, have romantic relationships (FABLE was full of great ideas after all!) and bribe for information, so trinkets have other uses as well.
Detailed character modifiers? Nothing like the AD&D rules. You gain talents (gold, silver & bronze) which you can spend to improve your fighting or magical abilities. Pretty much like the DIABLO or the TITAN QUEST abilities systems.

So, apart for the slight action-cRPG handicap, I have only two other objections. First, the...camera placement. Once more the atrocious Aurora Engine (remember NWN2...?) will keep auto-placing it where it is bound to get on your nerves - as it targets your character even if that is not the most logical option. Yes, this has indeed improved compared to the original but one cannot teach an old dog new tricks.
Second, the controls. They need getting used to as the fighting combos are still easily ruined by clicking out of sync. You do eventually get the hold of it, however it keeps glitching.

Nevertheless, its shortcomings are not enough to diminish the breath of fresh air this release brings to the scene. The Enhanced edition not only is a truly reworked game but it also comes full with detailed Manuals, beautiful Maps and all the extras that games used to come with in the good old days...

Whereas the BALDUR's GATES saga was story-heavy but (by today standards) visually wanting and the NEVERWINTER NIGHTS series was found, well, wanting in all aspects, THE WITCHER is the dream cRPG that BIOWARE was supposed to be capable of releasing all along but never did - and its current EA bedfellows surely put a stop to such aspirations now. That game, however, is finally here - and not from whom you would expect.
A tip of my hat to CDPROJECT for keeping the ART-FORM of Gaming alive. Well done indeed!

Health and Fitness Club Tycoon Review

WARNING: Do not purchase this game. It is the worst tycoon I have played in 5 years or so, since game developers started realizing there was a market for tycoon/simulation games (just look at The Sims). It is reminiscent of those really bad tycoons from the early 90s, even graphically. The graphics are dull and grey, with no ability to change the colours of the walls or floors and blurry-faced employees and visitors. The aforementioned employees and visitor don't do much of anything except walk around, with a few animations for working out on the various machines included. You can't zoom too far in or out, so not much detail or fun there.

Your visitors spend most of their time walking around complaining instead of just using the equipment. You have to manually direct your employees to do anything useful; they don't seem to know what work is unless you tell them "help this person".

There are almost no user objects, and not that many exercise objects at all. A lot of them are locked till you research etc.

In the little tiny html walkthrough that comes with the game it states that you start the first scenario with 12000 or something when in fact you start with 2000 so that little walkthrough is virtually useless. After 2 weeks of trying numerous ways to pass the first mission I resorted to cheating, and found that a few of the other missions were actually manageable but on the whole were boring and lacklustre.

There just isn't that much to do, or even much to say about the game. Shrug. Why do people still try to market this stuff to unsuspecting consumers? Especially when there are so much better choices out on the market today. Restaurant Empire, Space Colony, Zoo Tycoon (2), Tropico 2 and numerous others, just to name a few.

Midtown Madness (Jewel Case) Review

I love driving games. I love this game, it's easy to play and has lots of variety. There's checkpoint races where you can race against computer opponents, and blitz races where you race against time. It's realistic enough that it's fun to just drive around. Of course, I've only had it a week, but other driving games have bored me in hours. So far, so good.

Scrabble (with Official Players Dictionary) Review

In my own case, the sound was very distracting, and I had to turn it off, but those more used to video games will not find that a problem. I do enjoy the flexibility of being able to play against the computer, solitaire, or with another player.
One feature which I find very annoying is the "referee challenge." There are words which are not in the game's dictionary - enter one, legitimate though it is, and the "referee challenge" makes one lose a turn and be penalised. There is no way to challenge the referee, and my attempts to set up a supplementary dictionary failed. The attempt, in fact, disabled the ability to set options.
It is worthwhile for a Scrabble lover, but could use some revisions.

X3 Terran Conflict Gold - Windows Review

To be blunt, this game shows what can be accomplished in the video game industry. This feels like a labor of love. It isn't a quick sit down and shoot up some bad guys for a few minutes type of game. This is more for people who want to sit down and totally immerse themselves in a massive universe.

This one is a rarity. This one you don't play; you experience.

Across the top of the box it reads "Trade Fight Build Think". It delivers on those promises in spades. Highest praise and I would not hesitate to recommend this title to anyone interested in the genre. What put the icing on the cake was the fact that I was not familiar with the franchise and bought it out of desperation to find something, anything that would actually install on my PC. To discover such a gem made me forget about the problems I was having with a couple other titles.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Review

Well there is nothing stopping you now! The best multiplayer out there is Counter-Strike: Source with the HL2 engine but CS is not a blast `em up and is extremely tactical with a `one death and you are out' type gaming experience in small maps. Since HL2 is totally devoid of another multiplayer then what is the next best frag? Answer - UT2004 of course!

UT2004 is multiplayer all the way. Like UT2003 it has a single player/team co-op that spans the course of what is close to 120 + maps. 120 HUGE MAPS! So basically the single player mode is one big frag-a-thon on some fantastic maps of your choice. The bots have all preset AI or configurable ones meaning that having 30 bots chasing after you on GOD mode is quite possible - not that you will win or anything. So the AI is well up there in single player mode which, although has a massive number of maps, lacks one thing - a story.

A story however is not what UT is all about. UT is about fragging and team play - i.e., LAN parties and INTERNET gaming is the main reason to own UT2004. Did you ever want to fight in that huge battle like at the end of Episode II? Well there is a game mode called ONSALUGHT that lets 18 vs. 18 pit it out against each other taking down node points so that they can be king of the other's castle by blasting up the core. It really does play like that battle scenes of EP II with tanks on the ground, 30+ characters to choose from, several aircraft, ground vehicle, all can be piloted by you, with up to 10 weapons of your choice, each with alternative fire buttons. In the vast maps there are a million ways to die and a million strategies to choose from. There are also some nice new movements like double tap quick strafe and double jumping.

What of the graphics? STUNNING! The graphics in the trailer or screenshots do not do the game any justice. Watch the end of Episode II. It is more like that. Run this game on a Radeon 9800 and you will not stop playing multiplayer for the next 12 months... that is until UT2005 comes out. Realistically enough you can actually fight this first person shooter in 3rd person mode!

In short this game is like it says on the box - UNREAL.

- Outstanding graphics.
- A fast game engine with nice crash physics.
- 100% Blast `em up.
- Internet 32 player Games!
- Onslaught game type.
- DVD install!

Cons:

- Huge 6 CD install if you do not get the DVD version.
- Learning curve is high for 1st person shooter.
- Character movement is bit too fast.
- You need the internet to experience UT2004 fully.

Super Pong Review

I've been gaming for about 10 years now and i've had all the sytems from N64 to Xbox 360. The Pong Console is by far the best in every way. I purchased mine about a week ago and after the first time playing this amazing machine I tossed out my 360 and PS3. The graphics are mindblowing, the gameplay is out of this world. Pick this up as soon as you can and forget about all those crapy games that are coming out for lesser systems like the 360.

Warpath Review

This game could have been good. The graphics are good (not great, but they're up to date), and the menu and interface are well designed and it's an inexpensive game. Thats where the good things end.

The AI in this game is ridiculously easy. I'm an experienced FPS player, and I beat the entire game in one brief sitting on medium difficulty. The gameplay is identical to Quake (as the game is based on the Quake engine),and each "battle" is either a Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, or Assault match, and they get repetitive very quickly. The weapon upgrade system is also flawed as you need to reapply the weapon upgrades each time you respawn, which takes time, and in a speed-deathmatch style game usually gets you killed.

The plot in this game feels like it was thrown in as an afterthought. The intro and ending videos are merely in-game screen capture videos that lasta couple of seconds each, and the plot is explained through blocks of text. Seriously, who wants to read what's going on in a video game? The plot itself has no development at all, and merely consists of an intro paragraph describing the planet and the war, and a conclusion paragraph after you beat the "boss".

Speaking of the boss, he actually beat ME when I played the game, but thanks to a huge unresolved bug, the game thought I beat the boss and let me see the 4 second long ending cinematic and ending paragraph. The boss level is the only difficult match in the entire game.

A couple of other things that I didn't like about the game: you can't skip the intro cinematics (the studio logo, etc) when you start the game. It's only 15 seconds long, but still annoying. Also, when I checked the multiplayer I found 6 servers with 12 people total playing. That's just sad.PRO:

World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars Review

Gameplay is very good. You have a choice of time trial, single race or career. However some cars and tracks are locked out at the beginning. This is a big pet peave of mine. I paid for the game (using the Motorsportgaming funds ofcourse) and I want access to all that I paid for. Some people might have time to run a full career and unlock the treats but I like to jump in, experiment for a bit and get out.
There are three levels of difficulty easy, medium and OUTLAW. On the first attempt Outlaw is next to impossible. These cars are monsters. They will pull wheelies down the front straight and your back end will be in front of you before you know it, if you are not careful. Take my advice on this, start at easy and work your way up. The physics seem to be very well done, the cars are quite slippery and coupled with the force feedback it makes it very easy to get a feel for what the car is doing. Ai seems to be pretty good on intitial contact, they provide a little bit of bumping in the corners but generally seem to drive fairly intelligently.
Graphics are very good. I am running at a resolution of 1600x1200 full detail and get extremely fluid framerates. There does seem to be a small glitch though, every once in a while the graphics will skip, I have tried to remedy this by turning of the partical detail and am having favorable results. Will probably upgrade my video driver and see what happens.
The cars are well modelled and the track looks great. My only complaint would be that it looks slightly cartoony. Small gripe though it is still just a game. The sound quality is very good as well. The engines rumble appropriately, there seems to be a good spacial presence. No complaints here.

MechWarrior 3 Review

When you look at all the games that have been out concerning Battletech and Mechwarrior you have to admit that this one far surpasses any other, not only that it blows away any other game in this genre. Besides theincredible graphics and game play (which I will get to in a second) Thisgame also closely parallels the Novels and the RPG story lines. By doingthis it gives the novel fans a bit of a thrill and makes the game morefun.
Now on to the graphics and Game play (see I told you I'd get to it.)The Graphics are incredible, both in their realism and in their mesmerizingdetail. This game is just loaded with "eye candy" no more do wehave the blocky hexagonal mechs tromping around slowly on incredibly poorscenery. Now we have accurate death machines stealthily moving throughincredibly detailed scenery to lay waste to the enemy that you aredetermined to blow away. The reality of the weapons is incredible, itreally makes you think like you were actually in the mech. Certain tacticsand maneuvers that would have prevented you from getting hit in Mechwarrior2 and Mech: Mercenaries, will now just leave the Smoke Jaguars smiling andsaying " You are one dead Stravag". You are now forced to keepadapting new tactics and fighting styles according to the Mech you arepiloting. While the enemies AI is impressive they do have certainweaknesses. This can be used to your advantage, but you also willexperience disadvantages due to the games AI system. One...The enemies willsometimes learn from your previous actions. Two.. your lance members willnot always act intelligently. Picture this. You're being swarmed byelementals, and they are really tearing into a lance mate, well your lancemate is just sitting there letting them hit him, you have to order him todefend him self. This did not happen all the time, but it did happen enoughto be an annoyance.
The missions that you are sent on are bothchallenging and original. The Salvage factor is one aspect that I love,shoot out the legs of your enemies and looky looky looky...you get moresalvage than when you blow them sky high. Again the realism is at its best.I can not wait for the next game to come out. I can only imagine that itwill be better, How? I don't know...but the designers have not disappointedme yet. I just hope that the next game is from the clans point of view. Iroot for the Inner Sphere, but I'm a real Clanner at heart. A great Ideafor the next game might be that you are in Kahn Phelan Kell's WolfClan...that would be great. But until the next game, Mechwarrior 3 isundoubtedly the best of its type out there.

We've had this game for over a year and it's one of the few that my girls (now 6 and 3 1/2) continually come back to.Especially my younger daughter.There isn't too much by way of brain power required, no games that build reading or math skills.It is mostly about decorating...decorating the cake (my kids favorite), the ballroom, the bedroom, designing invitations, grooming ponies.Sometimes a list of items is given that the child needs to troll around the pony town and find but nothing challenging.However the colors are bright, the narrator is full of fun southern flair 'darling', and I like the extent of detail they put into this program, for example the cake will change from a round cake to a square to castle shape depending on when you enter the bakery, and you can decorate it with a zillion options.I can't stress enough how bright and colorful the whole thing is and it runs smoothly both on our Windows XP and 98 machines.So if you have an artsy child who likes little ponies, this game is worth your money.

Probably the coolest game I've ever played. It plays like Duke Nukem in the orient, with a highly sarcastic ninja kickin' butt.
Shadow warrior has elements that Duke doesn't, however. You can drive tanks, forklifts,boats and several other vehicles as you roll over your enemies (whereseveral gibs fly all over the place). The carnage in this game is amazingas you hack with your katana (Oh, look! Split personality), use twin uzisand even an atomic bomb (It is good day to die).
And did I forget tomention the anime women who all have their own insulting reasons they won'ttalk to you (I don't think my mother would approve is about the nicestthing they say)?
Also, later in the game you get to take over adestroyer long enough to launch a couple of missles (Tora, Tora,Tora)!
The humor is high, the violence is amazing and the story isn'tbad. If you love the orient, Duke Nukem 3D and sarcasm... this game is foryou!

Unreal Tournament 2003 Review

The hype surrounding this game was pretty incredible for a PC release. The first UT was so mind-blowing at the time it came out, not only for single-player but also online play. Most importantly it was somewhat original and a lot of fun.
I must say the graphics for UT2k3 are top-notch. A lot of attention was brought on the possible requirements for a game with several times the polygon count as its predecessor, which is understandable. My PC has a Duron 1.3Ghz processor with 512MB of RAM and a Geforce256 graphics card. It runs UT2k3 reasonably well with average settings, which shows you they put a lot of effort into the 3D engine to accommodate computers with less-than-fantastic specs. The body physics and movements are very realistic, especially when your opponents fall to the ground.
I have problems with a few of the game's main features though. The weapons are just too boring for the caliber of game that UT2k3 was hyped up to be. A few of them seem so out of place, like they're from a poorly designed mod. I don't know how the GES Biorifle made its way AGAIN into the final version. The minigun now does much less damage than the one in the original, which never seemed too powerful anyway. The rocket launcher is no longer able to fire more than 3 shots at a time, and lacks the true '2-function' mode as the first. Many die-hard gamers were angry about the Lighting rifle but its not so bad...I don't like the look of the zoom-in scope though. On the bright side the flak cannon is still a good weapon for close quarter combat and the link gun is also useful at times. The assault rifle is a good alternative to the handgun in the first but the grenades are too weak in my opinion, and hard to aim. The shock rifle is also back and is a decent choice.
But my biggest complaint is the sound effects. NONE of the weapons have the authoritative bang of the first, which were often too loud at times! The rocket launcher lacks the distinct vacuum effect of the missile's tube like the first UT. The grinding and 'lead-intensive' sound effects from the minigun were also removed, which drew inspirations from Jesse Ventura's character in Predator. And the annoying high-pitched announcer that declares the winner and killing successes gets old real fast. The announcer in UT was perfect and deserves his old job back over this thing. I have to admit the music is amazing. It would fit well into most sci-fi movies.
That's my take on the new UT. What bothers me the most is they came so close to getting it right. If you just want a new online thrill you probably wont mind as much, in fact you'll probably love this game. The netcode is almost flawless from my experience. But I was expecting the weapon selection to exceed all previous FPS standards, instead I was let down by what seems like a poor selection of armaments for future combat.

This is a great improvement on the Original Sim Tower in many ways.Most important is the fact that now every person, store, restaraunt and office operate independantly, making pleasing everyone a much more personalmatter. This is especially true in the Hotel and Condo settings.Goneare the days where your tenants could get fed up, leave, and instantly bereplaced.If your guests are unhappy, you can watch in dismay as yourhotel has less and less guests each season...So better get it right thefirst time.
Building the new towers is also vastly improved--in thisversion you CAN build two seperate towers, even adding a skybridge 80stories up for show.Exteriors are far more detailed, making the zoomableexternal view screen spectacular.Another neat touch is that you canplaster your building with billboards, bringing in even more preciousrevenue.
Some quibbles: The elevator pains continue--the regular onesare still contrained to only 15 floors.Oddly, this doesn't extend to theservice elevators, which can cover 30 or so.This leads, once again, tothe joy of having practically empty floors, with only the machinery for theelevators.
Another major quibble is that, once agian, you have to set therent manually, section by section.In a 100-story office-building, thispractically guarantees that you'll be using the preset price, unless youreally LOVE using your mouse.
However, the Hotel now adds a control forroom prices; built into the front desk.You simply set for each type ofroom; simple and useful. Those small flaws hardly make this game unusable. However, it surprises me that these are problems with the first that arestill unfixed in the second, and enough to keep me from giving this 4stars.
It is, however, a fantastic step up from the addictive original,with a great deal more to offer.

This is far and away one of the most addictive, hands-down BEST games I've played in quite awhile. The game design is incredible, and the game runs spectacularly even on low-end systems! The internet code is fantastic, andthe weapon balance and enviroments are mind-blowing. This game is king ofthe multiplayer first-person shooters. Team Fortress 2 remains to be seen,but unless it makes a lot of improvements over it's brethren (Tribes forexample) it may not last long. This game was alright. Not too bad, but definitely noticeable problems. You know something's wrong when the game comes with an insert saying: "Download the Patch Here." Here are some glitches that I found a little annoying.

1. Audio looping: Characters would say the same thing twice.
2. Video drop: During game videos, the characters would turn completely black. Does not affect game, but ruins videos.
3. One level just stopped letting me shoot guns for a while.

Graphics aren't terrific, but will do. Interesting game play, but gets a little old after a while. Because of the controls, it turns into a button masher. Story is, well, everything you have seen in the 3 movies, but also fills you in on where Neo has been in between movies and scenes. They do change a few things around in the story, like the ending. The game gets a little frustrating because of the auto-saving. Levels drag on for long periods of time without save points. If you die, you start from the last checkpoint, but if you quit the game you start from the beginning of the level.

Matrix fanatics may like this game because of the extended story, but dislike it for the story changes. I am not obsessed with the matrix so I found it as simply "Something to do when procrastinating homework."

This is unquestionably the best game I have ever played.
I realize Civ3 is out now and that game may be better (I have heard great things), but (for the price) you cannot do better than this game.

I bought this game for my two boys, 9 and 7 years old.I was concerned because of an earlier review stating that this game crashed their computer.I called COSMI and they assured me that the software was fine and my boys begged me for the game.We loaded it on our windows xp system.It started up fine and our boys absolutely love the game.It was a little confusing at first trying to figure out how to play the game, but after about five minutes the boys had it down.
The game has very little educational value but it is a lot of fun for kids and works well as a reward for doing their homework.

The original version of Tempest was on my top five list of favorite arcade games--and Tempest X is even better.The game play is basically the same as the original,but there are also some colorful power-up features, and a great techno music soundtrack!
There are only a couple of drawbacks to Tempest X.The original arcade version of Tempest is included (if you'd ever care to play it), but it's also sluggish and crude.Also, Tempest X is so colorful that you can lose track of what's happening.However, in the higher levels, you'll be running mostly on instinct anyway.
That's the real appeal Tempest X really has for me.Once you fall into your own little zone, this game can swallow you whole!

Deer Hunter II remains one of my favorite games even as I go through (and quickly tire of) first person shooters, high-graphics flight simulators, and extensive strategy games. Many people find this game monotonous, butwith a little patience, you can have an enormous amout of fun. Its beautyis in its simplicity, and even though it has no flashy graphics, it canstill be a fun challenge. You can choose your location, your weapons(everything from a .30 rifle with scope to a crossbow to a blackpowdermusket), and your accessories (three different calls, binoculors, GPS,scents, sprays, decoys, and more). You can run, walk, creep, hide behindtrees, or sit high in a tree stand while you track those deer. There arecheat codes, but I've found its more fun not to use them. The thrill of thegame is when you fire off that round and see your kill drop to the ground,or, if you're not so lucky, run off as you miss. Its not an easy task totrack down the deer in this game, but persistance pays off, and before youknow it, you've got that big buck in your scope. So give it a try, I highlyrecommend it.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Review

UT 2003 was a pretty good game, I played the demo for hours and hours, did the same with the full game and the same with Unreal Championship for Xbox. So when I got the UT 2004 demo for PC, I was pretty excited. But nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to experience. I immediately felt at home with the game, considering many of the weapons were the same, and much of the gameplay. But there was sooooo much more. So I played the demo everyday from the time it was released up to the time I received the full game. Believe it or not, playing that one stage in Onslaught for an entire month never got boring, that is just how great the game is. The full game however, is simply AMAZING!! The graphics are absolutely jaw-dropping, especially with the highest settings enabled (you need a powerful system to run this though). I don't think I've even seen graphics this great on any of the nexgen consoles. Also the stages are massive (mainly the Assault and Onsalught stages), its amazing to think of how much detail and creation when into the design of the stages. The sound in my opinion is also great. You can hear every little minute detail, and much of the music is good and suits the stage. The control is perfect, with the default settings being totally comfortable, allowing for maximum gameplay. Ahh yess, the gameplay. You thought Quake was good, you thought Halo was good, well they're pretty crappy compared to this game. The vehicles, the weapons, the bots, the entire style of the game, is simply outstanding. There is not enough to say about the vehicles. They put Halo's vehicles to shame. There is a perfect gun for every moment, each completely different from the other. The single player is exceptional for a multiplayer type game, and obviously the multiplayer aspect is fantastic, with up to 32 player online deathmatch, and no lag (with a proper connection). There are 10 modes of play, and about 100 levels. Then there's still the Unreal Editor which will allow you to create your own. There is also way too much that I cannot list here that you would just have to play and find out for yourself. I would actually go as far as to say this game is PERFECT. There is actually NOTHING wrong with it and EVERYTHING good. If you can overlook the extremely minor 'problem' of the 5.5 gig install, you'd be absolutely happy with your purchase. And at $40 retail, you cannot find a better videogame experience, period.

So far I have played this game for about 4 hrs.It's pretty good but it's definitely no NFS.The graphics are fairly good and the music is ok.This game is all about the cars, although I did read you get to purchase and ride motorcycles later on as well.Nice. =) They have some really cool cars from muscle cars to exotics and concepts.When you purchase your car, you choose the exterior paint job as well as the interior color scheme for your seats and carpet and dash areas.You can choose from several rims as well.Later on, you will be able to go to upgrade shops and upgrade your car's performance as well as looks from what i've read.

It's awesome to drive from the in-car view. To be able to look around inside your car while you are driving is very cool indeed.You can even roll your windows up and down! =)You can also change your radio stations.I read that the windshield wipers work but I haven't encountered rain yet to see that in work.Also, the in-dash gauges actually work.How cool is that?! You can also watch your avatar shift gears! =)

Traction control can be turned off to allow for more realistic racing.As far as the actual racing goes, it's not too shabby and is enjoyable.You can set the difficulty for each race on 3 different levels..easy, normal, hard.If you set it to easy, you will earn less money but are pretty much guaranteed the win.The harder you set the race, the more money you earn.

You use the money you earn to buy more cars and houses.When you first start the game, you purchase one car and one house b/c you are given a certain amount of credit to begin your game.The houses are on different locations on the map and can hold a specified amount of cars.A number of them only hold 4 cars, but I saw one you can buy later on that holds 10 cars.So looks like you will have to purchase a number of homes in order to store all your rides.And the rides you get are purchased from dealerships located around the map.

If you have driven to a specific location, you can later use your map and basically warp to that location without having to drive there again.But at first, you have to physically drive to the spots.The warp ability was a nice touch because it would stink to have to drive every time to locations you have been to a number of times already.For example, you can warp to one of your homes and save your game at that spot.You can save anywhere though. I just like to save at the home because I can check out my cars in my garage before I head out.

If you encounter an event and race it and it unlocks another event in that same spot, keep on racing until you totally beat that location because you can unlock cool stuff..won't say what though because I don't want to spoil anything.

Now for the bad.After purchasing the game, I found out you cannot choose your own avatar and you cannot customize him.I restarted the beginning like 4 times trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.Well I got online finally and did some digging and found out that they did away with some of the options that are available in the 360 version.So if you are thinking you will be able to pick male or female and customize their clothing and accessories and their appearance like in the 360 version, think again. It's not gonna happen.I was pretty disappointed once I read that detail after having already bought the game.But all in all, I do not regret purchasing it even with that disappointment.I don't really see why they had to do away with avatar customizing though b/c the PS2 is completely capable of handling that.

As far as game length goes, I am not sure yet. I played for 4 hrs and am 6% complete.Most of that time, I was racing and driving from race to race.I didn't really do too much dilydallying.

To sum up, I definitely recommend this game to car enthusiasts.I think $40 is kinda high though.Later on for $20 it would be a no-brainer.But at some point this is a worthy purchase.

Test Drive 6 is an awesome game. I would give it six stars but you can only put 5 max. There are 26 different tracks and over 35 different cars. The tracks are awesome with cars to get in your way and police men who are waiting to pull you over. It is one big career mode where you get money for winning single races or tournaments. There is also a cop mode where you try to pull over racers and get money if you do. There is also a practice mode to sharpen your driving skills. I reccomend this game to anyone who likes simulation racing games.

This is an incredible game, perhaps the best game I've ever played. This is as good as it gets, especially for a budget priced game. The premisis is that in the future, a space shuttle returning from a distant world that is younger then Earth and thus the inhabitents look alot like our own prehistoric animals crashes outside of Crater City, a remote colony of Earth. It soon becomes evident that dinosaurs have taken over the ship, and are rapidly escaping and invading the city. You can play as eiether a Millitary Offier, battling dinosaurs, rescuing civilians and restoring order or as one of the dinosaurs, killing humans, nesting and taking over the colony. The dinosaurs look spectacular, as they were desinged by paleo-artist Todd Marshall. The only flaw in the game is long loading times for the levels, even on fast machines. Some levels, like the Jungle Valley and the Downtown area, are large and complex and visually stunning, making them worth the wait but others like the subway station are rather plain and should not take as long as they do to load. Overall, a spectacular game, and a must have!

Definitely not the greatest roleplaying GAME I've seen for the PC, but it's probably one of the most enjoyable gaming EXPERIENCES I've ever had.

I would strongly recommend it... but only if you're experienced in the pen-and-paper Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 game. Those who haven't played D&D 3.5 will be completely lost when it comes to things like initiative, skill points, and feats. I found myself sitting with the D&D Players Handbook in my lap at some points in time, especially when it came to playing more obscure classes (druids for example).

Anyone that has played the actual D&D modules "The Temple of Elemental Evil" and/or "Return to The Temple of Elemental Evil" will recognize characters such as Terjon of St Cuthbert, Lareth the Beautiful, Jaroo the Druid, Burne's Badgers, and so on.

A warning: this is an older game meant for an older operating system. My 2007 Windows Vista hiccuped when I tried to run it, and it took me hours of frustration to find the right patches. It runs fine with XP, but anyone with Vista should be wary.

Initially getting the hang of the controls and dealing with sometimes frustrating camera angles takes a while to become accustomed to, but don't let that deter you from this game. If you're a D&D fan, you have nothing to lose from picking this title up.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Expansion Review

Storm of Zehir is one of two long awaited expansions for NWN2. In this expansion they introduce a new concept of the 'overland map' which is both kind of cool, and rather irritating. I like the random encounters and treasure you find if you are fortunate enough to have a thief/ranger in your party. But at the same time, the encounters get repetitive after a while. The whole loading the encounter screen just to fight 8 kobolds you couldn't avoid, gets tiresome after a while, as does clicking to exit the cleared screen.

I do like being able to have a party of adventurers I can design myself. I also like the ocean and sea tilesets, and the character Volo. There is some beautiful 3d scenery in this one, and a couple new races. The yuan-ti pureblood, the gray orc etc. And they reskinned a few of the models.

Unfortunately, I dislike the rest system, the emphasis on trading, and the fact that they still haven't fixed some of the unfortunate models like the half-elf and the elf. They need to redo some of the models. Its sad that a game with such great graphics is cursed with poor character models.

This game is enjoyable, but not my favorite expansion. I miss the long dungeon crawls, the ability to rest after encounters, and the more in-depth plot.

So I receive my copy of Indigo Prophecy last week and I can't help but be intrigued by all of the hype about playing a "movie".I'd read the reviews on the gaming sites and I kept saying to myself that this is an awesome concept if it can be pulled off right.

It's been done right.From the onset you know you're controlling something truly different.The tutorial will walk you through the basics, as this game play like no other.Basic movements, slight shifts of the right analog button and you;re controlling every slight action the character has from opening a refrigerator to closing a window.

You start the game as Lucas Kane, but you dont know that.basically you're the murderer in a restaurant killing and the police are now after you.You manage to escape, but now the entire story unfold in a very detailed, very story oriented fashion.

Split screens, flashbacks, odd lighting and off the beaten path chapters make this game unreal.You play through the eyes of a few characters, and some acts may have you simply pouring some coffee and heading to work, or having a workout in the gym, but overall everything you do affects the storyline somehow.

As the game progresses you have tons of mini games which can feel frustrating or reptitive, but they downright make you sweat as you help one of the characters do what they need to do.

You almost always get the feeling that something is lurking behind you or about to flash before you and sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesnt.But everytime you get chills from every corner.

This game is downright addictive, I've played it just about through in my first week, and I never do that.

I used to play this game all the time! I remember having the best park on the official website and made it downloadable. I quit playing after the downloadable version was off the website and it somehow got deleted off my computer. This game has quite a bit of depth, and is the best game in the tycoon series byfar! My park was so huge though, that all i could do when i went on to it was just watch people do stuff and watch my money pile up. I had absolutely no space left, and I didn't want to touch my park because it was so cool to look at. You can customize a lot of stuff in this game as well. not just roller coasters, but water slides, kid car rides, go-kart tracks, and more. I definitely reccomend this game to any person because in my opinion this is better than RCT2 or RCT3, so forget about them and buy this.

In my opinion, it's the best game on the PC.

Unreal Tournament 2004 Review

I've never been big on first-person shooter (FPS) games, although I've played a few, like Star Wars: Battlefront 2, that I've found entertaining. So, getting this game was taking a chance, since I'm partial to real-time strategy games and roleplaying games.Overall, I must say that I've really had a good time with UT 2004. It hasn't made me more of a fan of the FPS genre, but I am definitely looking forward to UT 2007.

Gameplay: The controls are the typical mouse, WASD keys, and hotkeys associated with FPS games, so anyone familiar with the FPS genre ought to be able to jump right in. You have a number of options for your in-game character, including race, gender, name, etc. You can also choose your AI teammates and the number on each team.Additionally, there are ten game modes, including deathmatch, capture the flag (CTF), domination (requires you to hold two points), assault (objective based), bombing run (a deadly version of soccer), and onslaught (securing nodes and destroying the enemy base). There's fun to be had with each mode, but I suspect that most people will find the greatest replayabiity in the onsault, assault, CTF, and team deathmatch modes. The maps are large enough for some strategic thinking (especially on assault and onslaught), and the game comes with about 100 maps--with many more that can be downloaded from the internet.

AI opponents ("bots") are very good in this game. They have strong attack scripts, good pathfinding, will follow orders, and generally work well as teams. I detected some of the typical AI cheating found in FPS games (i.e., extra health, amazing accuracy, accelerated movement) toward the end of the tournament and in some of the tougher matches, but generally the AI here is just plain challenging and well programmed. Although many will buy this game for the multiplayer side, the single-player content (which is all that I play) is quite strong. The game does not have a compelling story to tell, but the tournament mode lasted me 25-30 hours on "experienced" difficulty level. I don't feel a need to replay the tournament anytime soon, but there are a lot of individual maps and modes that are greatly replayable.

A few things that add a lot to the game are the variety of weapons available and the vehicles. Overall, none of the weapons are very overpowered, though some are better and more versatile than others. Some weapons are best suited for one situation, while others can be useful in some fashion under a number of conditions. A second element that adds variety to the game is the vehicles. I can't overemphasize how fun these can be. Not only do they break up the monotony of having to sprint on foot across the map, but they also add a new strategic and tactical layer to a game. Vehicles can be game winners, but they are not invincible. Some can carry multiple passengers, who can man various weapons or simply go along for the ride. However, to maintain balance, characters on foot have a few very strong anti-vehicle weapons, and many objectives cannot be completed by vehicles. Still, there's nothing like decapitating a fleeing opponent with the blades of a Scorpion buggy or hearing the thundering cannon of a Goliath tank.

The gameplay is frantic, exciting, and straightforward enough to appeal to a range of gamers. You never feel lost on the maps, since there is a good in-game mini-map and the objectives are always clear. Also, you never get the sense that you are babysitting your computer allies, since they act as intelligently--more so on many occasions--as the average human player. The game's flaws are mostly minor, but worth mentioning. First, there are a few rather frustrating missions in the tournament that the average player will have to repeat several times (at least on experienced difficulty and higher). And there is no way to adjust the difficulty level of the tournament once it starts. Also, the game-save system is automatic; the game saves after every match, win or loss. Thus, you can find yourself broke if you lose enough matches, and you'll have to play a series of qualifying matches to earn enough money to continue the tournament. It's a system that gets old quick and really adds a layer of repetition to the game that serves little purpose. Finally, some people will be put off by the amount of acrobatics that the game includes. On some of the more advanced levels and difficulty settings, AI opponents are hopping, flipping, and cartwheeling in ways that make them nearly impossible to hit, though they will seem to hit you just fine. I think that the game plays just a tad bit too fast and requires too much jumping around. But you'll get used to it.

Graphics: Great-looking game. The maps are very impressive in detail and size. Be sure to take a lot of screenshots! The models are all rendered well, from the characters to the vehicles. Weapon fire and particle effects look good, as does the natural environment, especially skies. Have no doubt about it, this is a very violent game. Dying animations are graphic, and people tend to end up in pieces or as skeletal remains. Overall, the art direction is rock solid.

Sound: Although decent, the audio is not as good as the visuals. Weapons such as miniguns and tank cannon sound like they should, along with footsteps, flowing water, and other ambiant effects. In-game AI characters tend to use the same list of taunts such as "Ownage!" or "You suck!" or "You be dead!"--along with a few choice obscenities--but none of the characters really stand out with individual personalities. The music is the typical techno fare found in many video games, nothing special.

Documentation/Stability: The manual that comes with the game is informative and makes up for a rather bland in-game tutorial. The game was pretty stable on my computer, though I experienced one freeze and one crash during the tournament. Overall, the game seemed well polished and optimized.

Replayability: Given the number of maps that come with the game, the developer's Bonus Pack that can be downloaded for free from the internet, the large number of player-made maps available, and the editor tools that you can use to make your own maps, this game has had a long shelf life. If you get tired of playing against the AI, you can go online and play against a human opponent. For me, about half of the 10 gameplay modes are not appealing after a few rounds, but the other 5 (especially assault, onslaught, and CTF) are always good fun.

If you are a fan of FPS games, UT 2004 seems to be a must-buy (I'd be surprised if you don't already have it!). From what I have read, it is the best of the Unreal series and still has an active online community. For those of us who only have a passing interest in FPS games, this is a good one to blow some time with.

Overall rating: 4.25 stars

Neverwinter Nights 2 Review

NWN is a fun, exciting story that is unfortunately swallowed alive by its own technical limitations.I won't say much about the game quality other than to say that long time fans of Black Isle games will recognize the fun and depth built into NWN2, and the story is everything you would expect from the successor to Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights 1.Sadly, the fun of playing through the story is quickly swallowed up by the frustration of fighting the game's significant technical flaws.

The user interface, and particularly the camera control, is horrendous.Any time you enter one of the game's many tight, swirvy dungeons, count on stopping to adjust the camera angle every few minutes as it gets hung up on seemingly every wall, plant, or chunk of rock within throwing distance.You may miss much of the game's more impressive eye candy as the camera points uselessly off at nothing or grants you an extreme closeup of a patch of dirt on the wall.

Sadly, the technical issues with NWN2 don't stop with the UI.Independent reviews at Gamespot confirm what countless users on Atari and Black Isle support forums are reporting: achieving a playable framerate (> 30 FPS) in this game requires significantly better hardware than that which is "recommended" by the box.

Users logging onto the Atari & Black Isle support forums are consistently reporting single digit framerates in almost all areas of the game.My own impression, based on many hours scouring the forums, and on my own in-game experiences, is that if you have the absolute best hardware available on the market, and you turn *all* of the graphics options down to "mid grade" or lower, you can expect to see about 25 - 30 FPS.If you have the hardware "recommended" by the box, and you turn all of the graphics options all the way down (disabling any optional eye candy), you can expect 5 - 15 FPS, complemented by a constant 100% utilization of both CPU & GPU (is it a bad sign when CPU utilization remains at 100% just looking at the game's main menu?).

Unfortunately, Atari and Black Isle support have left their userbase without a solution to these issues, reporting that they have been unable to reproduce any of the performance problems reported on their support forums.Personally I find it hard to believe they are unable to reproduce what is a seemingly ubiquitous set of problems, but either way they have yet to release a patch or troubleshooting step that has provided a resolution to the many users experiencing significant performance issues with NWN2.

Given the many technical issues this game suffers, I cannot recommend it to any but the most die-hard fans, and even then I cannot recommend it to anyone who's hardware is less than the best the market has to offer.

If your one of those types who just has to know how a game is made this would be interesting for you, but not for most people. Nice to have if you pre-ordered the game, but by no means worth the [money]. Look for the "The Animatrix" DVD instead its cheaper has more and has the "Final Flight of the Osris". The movie doesn't mention "Dective Story" at all, but the Osris is mentioned numerous times in the movie.

Knights of Honor Review

A few weeks ago on a rainy Sunday, I downloaded the "Knights of Honor" demo out of curiosity. After playing the demo for about 15 hours, despite the fact that most of its features were disabled, I KNEW I liked this game.

"Knights of Honor" is a strategy game similar to a game in the "Total War" series. It also has elements of "Heroes of Might and Magic", "Warlords III", and "Master of Orion II" in it, along with a unique dynasty feature.

Many so-called "hardcore" gamers (who really care more about graphics instead of gameplay) may be put off by its use of 2D, rather than 3D, graphics. If you can get beyond that and enjoy the actual gameplay, you'll find a very fun strategy game.

Your goal is to become Ultimate Emperor of Europe: either by conquering all of the 100 or so regions of Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa, or by being voted Ultimate Emperor. You can win by fighting lots of battles, or by making lots of friends diplomatically.

The diplomatic model is simplistic, and would be useless if there were just a few enemy powers. However, since there are dozens of powers, there are lots of entanglements, which makes the diplomatic game surprisingly fun. You might declare war on Sicily, which brings in the Fatimids, but then the Dalmatians decide to attack the Fatimids along with Dacians and Novgorod. You also have to keep an eye on the four different religious factions (Christianity, Islam, Orthodox, and pagan), and you can use religion to manipulate various factions.

You can fight auto-fight battles (a feature sorely missing from many other strategy games) or you can fight them yourself. When you choose to be involved, you see your army and the enemy's on a battlefield. Both sides can call in nearby reinforcements. While battles are not on the scale of a "Total War" game, the scale is reasonably appropriate for the time period. The AI is competent enough, and I find mid-to-late-game battles a decent challenge (although I found an AI exploit that guarantees a bloodless victory against any town that has walls but no ballistae...).

Like HOMM or Warlords 3, KoH has special characters called Knights (of Honor, hehe). The marshals, who command your armies, can learn different skills that enhance their abilities, such as Dread (reduce enemy morale), Healer (reduce casualties after battle), or Sword Mastery (increase rates of units' experience gains). You can also create Knights as Clerics, Merchants, Landlords, Builders, or Spies.

Clerics are useful because they help increase your religious and scholarly resources when they govern a province. They can also convert populations to your religion, and if they become highly experienced, they can become a Pope and call Crusades against other religions or excommunicateleaders from the Church.

Merchants can raise lots of money through your trade agreements with other countries. They can also govern a province and increase income from it.

I haven't really used Landlords or Builders that much (though I've already logged 50+ hours into the game), but I'm sure they have good uses.

Spies are really cool: if one of your spies can get hired by a rival power, you can do lots of things, depending on his profession. For example, as a Marshal, he can cause the army to rebel. If he becomes a Cleric, he can cause a religious revolt or convince the population to secede. It's even possible, with great luck, to get the Spy installed as a puppet king or a Pope!

One unique feature of KoH is the royal dynasty. You can play as long as you have a living king. Your king can use diplomacy to find a wife and you can have heirs. You can use male heirs as Knights or keep them safe in the castle. You can marry your female heirs off to other countries, and they can help your Spies perform espionage on that country. Marriages also affect royal inheritance, so it's possible to make claims on other countries' territories (and vice versa).

If your playing style leans toward building, you'll like how you can build dozens of different types of buildings. You have to be careful of what resources your territories have, and you may trade with others to get them or capture them through battle.

Overall, all of these different elements combine to make an excellent game. Though I gave it a 5-star rating for fun, I knocked off one star from the overall rating because of its 2D graphics, because the multiplayer only lets you play the tactical battles (you can't play the strategic game in multiplayer), and because there are certain problems with the UI and the AI (I'm sure they'll be fixed later in patches).

There are a few bugs but you learn to work around them. Great sound. The major drawback is you can't save a game. The game saves after you complete a level. This can be very frustrating but it's also a rush when you make it. One last thing, this game will take you hours to complete. For me, that's a good thing.

I have been playing the GP series since GP2. They just keep getting better. GP4 didn't disappoint me. I have had no problems installing or running the game. For those who have, a patch and a FAQ are now available ...
The most noticeable improvement of GP4 over GP3 is that the tracks are now synthesized from GPS data. The bumpiness is more evident and the elevation changes very apparent. Use of a Force Feedback wheel adds a great deal to the experience. The focus of the Force Feedback in GP4 is on providing feedback on what the car is doing. For example you won't feel the wheel vibrate over rumble strips, but you will feel the back end of the car step out if you step on the gas too hard. It's quite amazing. Be sure to switch the "Centering Force" of the FF wheel off, or you won't feel this kind of effect.
GP4 is for people who want a racing simulation more than for gamers looking for a quick thrill. GP4 attempts to provide the skill challenge of driving an F1 car. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your heart condition) nothing can simulate the phyisical stresses of driving one. If you want to try driving an F1 car for little money, this is the one.

This game is pretty lame.In easy mode you only have to shoot somewhere in the vicinity of the enemy and you will kill him but in normal mode it takes multiple hits to kill him.The enemy somehow is able to shoot through things and you can't.Movement is very restricted as you can only go on the designated path due to the invisible walls all over the place.If you can get it from the bargain bin and want something pretty easy and quick to play, this game may be acceptable but if you are used to COD quality, save your money.

Neverwinter Nights (NWN) stands alone amidst a rubble-strewn field of fantasy games.There are too many aspects to NWN to reveal in a simple review, but I must lay out the basics to aid my fellow gamers!

Some general warnings and guidelines for prospective buyers:
- NWN is huge.It is time-consuming.If you want to have fun expect to spend a lot of time doing it.My friend bought the game at my recommendation and he has recently forgotten his girlfriend's name.
- There is a lot of dialogue and reading in NWN.There are books about the history of the world and everything in between.There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of characters in the world to interact with.If you don't like reading or story development (i.e. you prefer action) then avoid NWN like the finger of death.
- NWN is Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) in electronic format.If you don't like magic, monsters, and swords then don't bother.Your character in the game will earn points and increase in power, requiring you to manage his skills and abilities - if you don't like managing stats and inventory then don't bother.

The storyline is immersive.This Diamond Edition comes with so much game it's hard to explain.The original campaign alone is vast - I mean VAST.The Diamond edition comes with the original campaign and two expansion packs (both like the original campaign in size and scope); in addition, the Diamond gives you three premium modules (official add-on adventures) and several smaller adventure packs.For the price you CANNOT find a better deal - if this is your style of game.

Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Soaked! Expansion Review

RCT3 Soaked is the first expansion pack to be realeased and it solves some problems that have occured in the orginal RCT3. There are loads of new features and they all are very fun. Some of the things that are addressed are the tunnels. Like in the first and second edition, you can build tunnels right through walls. Also instead of having to click on a single person to view their opinions. There is a new button to group them all together like in the orginal RCT. This makes it easier to plan what you need to do to fix problems. The new feature gives you a concensus on peoples opinions. Also the mixmaster has been improved greatly. Now you can add water shows and lazer lights to it too. But the real improvement is the preview screen where you still select it, it will show you a preview of what it looks like. This feature is great since in RCT3 orginal. You had to put the fireworks in the schedule and then preview what it was by playing the whole fireworks segment. This makes it a lot easier to put fireworks together.

The new features in soaked are very good like you can build a water park altogether or add it with our original park so you can have a water park within a theme park. There are slides, flumes, and a river pool or lazy pools. Also a killer shark and dolphin show are here. It's like RCT 3 meets Sea World. There is also a neat shuttle hop on hop off transit shuttle. It looks like Universal Studios Backlot tour vehicles. They can be used as shuttles but you can place ride events like erupting volocano and make a ride out of it. It really makes it seem like the Backlot tour at Universal Studios. Many features plus a couple of new carnival type attractions and beach stores like sunscreen store keep this expansion pack fresh until the next expansion pack in Sept/Oct.

Of course, there is still room for more rides and attractions not yet released in this expansion pack, they are most likely saving those for the next expansion pack.

Great buy of any RCT 3 fan.

Oddworld Abe's Oddysee Review

A lot of the reviews here criticize this game for being difficult. I have this to say to that: DUH! Games are supposed to be difficult if they are going to be fun, right? If it were too easy, it might as well be a movie, right? (Though I hear that they are working on that :D)
Abe's Oddysee, as well as its sequels, have a few things in common that make them truly amazing:
1. Beautiful environments. I mean absolutely stunning. The artists working on this game capture an alien landscape with true finesse. There are a few times I just stop and gaze into the distance.
2. Great storyline, with characters to match. It's silly, but not so silly that it masks the anti-industrialist message. The game is something of a metaphor opposing clear-cutting and mass-species-extinction.
3. Refreshing style of play. It breaks from standard games by not having a life bar (one shot death in most cases), but that's balanced by having unlimited lives. Sure the puzzles are hard. Very hard. If you're up to the challenge, the rewards are soooo worth it.
Happy gaming, folks! This is a gem that shouldn't be missed.

Champions Online Review

Overall, I am still pleased with the game and maintain my rating of it. As an avid WoW player I don't feel that Champions Online is going to be a game for me which will replace WoW by any means but I am pleasantly surprised by how fun it is to play.It has so far served me quite well as a respectably good distraction.

You start off by making your character.The promises Cryptic made in regards to the depth of customization were delivered in spades. In terms of looks you are limited to various costume pieces, of which there are many, but the majority of them can be altered in several ways including material, color, and patterns. I was a little disappointed to find that certain costume pieces can't be used with others (chest armor + cape = no?) but with the shear level of options it was a fading disappointment as I moved on to other cool ideas. I'm immensely satisfied with the creation features. Other costume items can be unlocked through gameplay via random drops, PvP, and such. These unlocked costume items are currently only available to the character which unlocks them but you can change your costume around after creation.

For your powers you can choose from pretty generic comic book archetypes like a fire user, or super strength, or telekinesis etc. You also have the option to custom tailor your power set which at creation allows you to choose one "energy builder" (a spammable basic attack which builds energy) from any archetype, and then another actual power from any of the archetypes (an attack which uses stored energy, think mana). This again allows for quite a bit of customization but there is an obvious limitation of 2 abilities upon creation.

Following power selection you pick a talent which basically gives you a sizable stat bonus. There are plenty of different combinations to choose from. The stat system is drawn from the Champions pen and paper game and comes across as a little vague and foreign compared to other games but if you take their stat recommendations and hover your stats it's pretty easy to figure what you need and what you're getting. Stats affect various powers and builds in different ways but there are some core benefits to each. For example my main character derives their damage from endurance which also effects my energy pool but on another character of mine endurance simply affects my energy pool and Ego grants me my damage.

Alright, on to gameplay.

My first look at the game left me a little gutted by how low the quality was.Following that I had to double check the settings to make sure something wasn't wrong and sure enough the game defaulted to much lower graphics setting and resolution than my PC was capable of.So after turning the settings up I went about my busines.The graphical styling probably isn't for everybody and doesn't scale down very well at all but on high settings I feel that they are actually quite good.At lower settings a lot of the nuances which I feel polish the look of the game are lost and in turn makes the game look exponentially worse the lower you go.If you don't have a great computer and highly value the look of the games you play you may want to pass this over but otherwise I feel that the game performs and looks great on higher settings and is certainly playable otherwise.

So off to great adventures.

The game can be played natively with a wired X-Box 360 controller, a wireless 360 controller for Windows, or a keyboard.I have wired 360 controllers for just this reason so I will be playing that way. This has worked well for me thus far but there are some annoyances in using a controller. Many of these issues have been addressed in patches but it still seems awkward and somewhat undoable to select from multiple NPCs and/or objects using the controller.

Questing is pretty typical, find people with big yellow exclamation points, take their quests, pound some aliens,???, profit.It doesn't bug me much but I imagine some folks were hoping for a change of pace.You won't find the questing in this game particularly refreshing unfortunately. You can get quests by finding items certain items, stumbling up an area granting a local quest (Fallout 3 radio transmission style), take part in "public quests" Warhammer Online style, and then your run of the mill quest hub. I have been encountering sporadic glitches with quests like not being able to take them and there are a couple of the public quests which are undoable right now.The vast majority of them work flawlessly, and an increasing number have been fixed in patches, but again this game isn't without its faults.

Combat is very active and plays much more like an action game than basically any other MMORPG. You can run/jump/fly/teleport in and pound on whatever you're attacking because with the way you build energy (attacking) and your general abundance of energy it seems as though you're always able to keep your head in the combat.The challenge level of enemies in an area can often be quite erratic, an issue which has been methodically addressed in patches.Blocking and playing defensively can be a much more integral part of combat than other games.You can see enemies charge there attacks and that's generally a sign that something dangerous is about to hit you.In these situations it can be quite devastating to not take a defensive action so again this is an element of combat which adds to the immersion of most fights.

You can equip armor, weapons, and such. Equipment itself doesn't change your look that I know of, but again certain pieces of equipment do unlock costume pieces.You can change your costume for a nominal fee at any point in the game and you can actually save multiple costumes.There are 3 equipment fields which are science, arms, and mystic. Each type has one primary equipment slot and 2 secondary slots. Aside from that you can basically consider them unique slots like any other paper-doll equipment method you've seen before. You also have a bar for "devices" which are like items with charges and trinkets that do interesting things. I haven't messed with them much but you can get things that give you various buffs or do attacks as well as healing items which can be nice.

After a bit of questing you will eventually gain levels. At that point you'll have various points saved up. At set levels you can get points for new powers, new travel powers, new talents, and new power advantage points. Again you can choose powers from any school provided you meet the requirement which is typically "X non-energy building powers from this school or X+3 non-energy builders from a different school". Powers come in all different types so you can mix and match defensive and offensive powers from all over. Travel powers are pretty self explanatory, that's where you get flight, teleportation, super jumping, super speed... They're all quite varied, I chose teleportation which allows me to zip in and out of combat with the downside of not being able to attack while teleporting vs. flying which allows you to shoot enemies from the air. Talents are just like at character creation only there are many more of them at this point and obviously off many more stat options. Power advantages allow you to take powers you already have and modify them in certain ways (like WoW glyphs sort of). Each power has very different things you can do to it so again there's a lot of customization to be had here. Powers and talents can be undone via the "Retcon" option but you'll still want to be very careful of your decisions. Unlike other games where you re-do your whole tree, in Champions you buy your powers back one by one in order with a cost based on your level. Typically this is going to be far more money than you have to backtrack all the way through your choices.

There is also crafting. Initially I dismissed crafting a pretty worthless but I've come to find it's quite easy and yields some pretty solid rewards. It isn't as grindy as crafting professions in other games and you come across enough materials as you quest to make it so that you typically have, or are close to having whatever it is you're looking to build. Materials are gathered my breaking down various equipment pieces you gather (called research) like WoW's disenchanting or by finding boxes, crates, or artifacts relevant to your profession. Researching can give you several points and quite a large amount of materials so I've found that it makes leveling your profession more of a way to supplement your adventures vs. a race to highest skill and best stuff.

The nemesis system is pretty neat, once you hit level 25 you get to make your rival.You can create the way they look and make some pretty general choices about how they act and what their powers are.Once this is done you will randomly encounter their henchmen and periodically get quests to foil his various nefarious capers.It's kind of an interesting sensation of "when and where will they strike again" that adds a very unique dynamic to wandering around the world.

My experience with PvP so far has been lackluster.I'm a casual hardcore PvPer if such a thing exists.I enjoy it, and can take it quite seriously when I participate, but for the most part it's just another thing to do for me rather than the focus of a game.With that said in Champions it often feels that the battle is decided beforehand in how well the player chose their powers/advantages giving an endge to theorycrafters over skilled PvPers.I don't really want to go as far as to say some stuff is just broken, but there are definitely powers which have very specific answers to them and in many cases you'll find there isn't anything you can do about it.There are some pretty specific things which...Read more›

Beach Head 2000 Review

Beach Head 2000 puts you in the role of defending a beach head against an onslaught of unidentified enemies, both on foot, land and water. It's an interesting concept...I can't think of any other game quite like it. Thebox is very appealing and even coxed me into buying the product, eventhough I was well aware of Wizard Work's shaky reputation. The graphics onthe back of the box are not the same as on the game. The scenery is verypixelated and dull. In general, the grpahics are very early 90's in style.The gun turrent you operate can be manipulated via keyboard, mouse orjoystick. The mouse control is terrible, and there is no real way tocontrol it. One move too quick and the whole turrent spins around. I spentmore time trying to line the gun up right than I did shooting. The keyboardcommands seem to stiff and non-responsive. The gameplay is very monotonous,with a constant wave of troops lands on the beach. Higher levels includehelicopters and jets, but they are equally unimpressive and monotonous. Thegame does have a save feature, which is handy. I will give them credit forthat. I gave the game two stars because it is an interesting concept, butpoorly implemented. I bought the game hoping it would be a quick fix forthe times I want to just blow up everything. But you'll spend more timetrying to master the controls than enjoying the gameplay. With a littlemore work, this could have been a great game. But like the game itself,that is the most frustrating part.

A year or two ago, I bought Pearl Harbor, I believe that's the name... Anyway, it's a game where you simply shoot down the jap planes... The guns operate very loosely and after awhile, you get annoyed because they're so hard to control. Well, Infogrames came out with a near duplicate... Does exactly the same stuff and is still difficult to control. It's definitely amusing though. But, it won't play when I click on the icon, so I have to load the... game EVERY time I want to play! Very, very annoying... It's not a bad game. It can be fun at times... but, if you have Windows XP; the so-called gaming system, you'll have trouble with it... Why can't these game makers make games that will load automatically? I give up...

Loopy Landscapes is the second expansion pack for the original Roller Coaster Tycoon.
For the price, you get quite a few extra goodies.Loopy Landscapes includes 30 new scenarios, 3 `real' pre-built-parks, new themes, new coaster designs, new shops/stalls, music and coloring options, plus a few new rides.It should be said upfront that this expansion also includes RCT's 1st expansion: Corkscrew Follies, so you don't need to purchase it as a separate item.
The scenarios, like the original and first expansion get progressively harder, and when you load it for the first time, only 5 of the scenarios are unlocked.You must complete a scenario here in order to unlock others.However, I think this is where Loopy Landscapes shines in game play: The new scenarios are much more dynamic, creative, and challenging than previous ones.Here, instead of the normal `Have 1,200 guests by the end of year 3', or `Have a Park Value of $XX,XXX' by the end of year 3', you'll find you have to create certain excitement levels on half built coasters, or create X coasters of Y type.My favorite so far is `Arid Heights' where you are free from any financial burdens....just a big sandbox mode in which to create a park that will attract 2000 guests.I like it because you are not restricted to time or money and can make a beautiful park.
Also Loopy Landscapes groups the scenarios by tabs.There is one tab each for the original game, Corkscrew Follies, Loopy Landscapes, Extra's, and Real Parks.Very cool to be able to switch between these.Also the `Real Parks' are just plain beautiful to look at and watch.Sure you can change them, but I like to study them for tips and hints on what you can bring into one of the other scenarios you are working on.
There are a few new coasters and a few new rides including `Jet Skis' and `Enterprise', but there are many new shops/stalls to choose from.The new coloring options have been expanded; you have more control over how a ride is now painted.There are many new tiles for roofing and ground cover, including snow, swamp, Martian, wood, etc.Also, there are new supports for different walkways and queue lines.The music scores for rides have been expanded as well; you must check out the `Oriental Style'....very beautiful.For a new expansion, I would have liked to see a few more new thrill rides.
Lastly is the new themes themselves.There is now Arctic, Medieval, Spooky, Space, and more.This adds so much creativity, but the biggest let down is that some of the older themes could have been expanded, but were not.Like Old West should have had maybe a saloon, more cacti, horse tie-ups, mine cars, etc.Or Jurassic could have had more dinosaur's, Egyptian and Greek could have been expanded too. There are some themes that are begging to be created, like Pirates, or Super Hero's, or Mexican.However, the Oriental theme was done very nice.
Overall, a worthy addition to RCT.

MoonBase Commander Review

The game starts out and you have control of a hub that is placed on the surface of a moon. This hub has the ability to make clones of itself. As well as produce many offensive and defensive units. Ok not sounding too revolutionary is it? The cool thing about moonbase is the way you create and distribute these other units. Each unit you create will have a cord attached to it. These cords will attach themselves to almost everything you create. So from one "home" central hub you will be able to clone many more hubs. That is, as long as you have the energy to do so. When you make a clone or another unit, you select a direction you want to go; charge up a bar by holding down the mouse button. Releasing it will launch it at the rate indicated on the power bar. It's simple in concept but it takes a while to master it. You see you can only land hubs or units on flat surfaces. If you hit the side of a cliff it blows up, and the cord attached to that unit blows up too. And you can never cross any cords. So space management becomes a serious gameplay factor when you have a limited amount of space to move around in. So once the game gets going you have a network of units and cords scattered across the landscape. So what's the point then? Well your out to claim this planet for you faction. In all their are 4 factions wanting to claim the planet.
From a hub you may build single shell bombs, cluster bombs, anti-air units, bridges, towers, attack units, observation balloons, shields, guided missiles, and so on. So you can launch bombs for attack and for instance, if you wish to build an anti-air unit to help defend your hub, you first select the unit from the hub menu, choose a direction in which to launch, and finally press the launch button. The newly placed anti-air unit will protect anything that comes within it's launching radius. It is key to figure out what that radius is, and to exploit it.
Weapons such as bombs and missiles are not connected to a hub via a cord, but are still launched just like any other unit. Friendly fire is a major concern as some weapons carry an area of effect with them, and a careless commander can easily blast his or her own units to bits.
Another major consideration to the game-play is the attention of the cords between units when attacking. When you face off against another faction you can take them out by hiting a hub or cord. There is a great strategy in deciding what unit to attack. You see attacking a unit that has many cords coming off of it will have a major effect. If you destroy a hub that is the source for a network of other units, everything built off of that home hub will be distroyed. Chain reactions can have a serious effect on the outcome of the game. I bought this at the store from the clearance rack for $3.99, and it's not even worth that. First of all, even though you download the software onto your computer, you still need to insert the cd into the computer each time you play. Secondly, the game play with computer opponents is terrible. You can choose from three different skill levels for the computer opponent. The more advanced their skill level, the higher the probaility that the computer opponent will have more favorable rolls, and a higher probability you will have less favorable rolls. This is too bad because I bought the game so my son could play by himself. That being said, the layout is nice, and game play with two or more individuals is nice, but the rating is for the unit as a whole. Skip this cd and buy a different Monopoly cd.

Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012 for PS1 Review

Rogue Trip is definitely one of those car-combat games you need to own. Like its' predecessors(Twisted Metal 1&2), it's full of frantic, crazy action. Only this one is a bit more zany and humorous, not as serious as the Twisted Metal series. It came out around the same time as Twisted Metal 4 but blew the doors off of that game. These guys know car-combat up and down. Sad to say, though, It's the first and last of its' kind. Seeing as Singletrac(Incog. Inc.) got its' TM license back, we'll probably never see a sequel to this one. And that's a bummer. I woulda loved to see one.
If you love car-combat or just love car games, look into Rogue Trip...you won't be disappointed.

* clever and seamless mixing of SP and MP experiences when online
* a truly huge selection of cars, from foreign to domestic, and muscle cars to exotics
* impressive vistas and white-knuckle racing challenges, with strangers and (with a little work) with friends
* driving wheels really make a difference, although you can race with a joystick, pc game pad controller, or just your keyboard (you will have the most fun and the best driving experience with a wheel, however - serious drivers won't think twice about this)
* NPC cars seem to ask, for the most part, like common people driving around and doing what they do, including signalling to turn and slowing down for intersections, obeying the traffic lights, and so on

Overall, this game has high replay value, no monthly charges, a helpful community, and some of the best PC racing action I've ever experienced in eleven years of gaming (coming second only to the vehicular carnage game Carmageddon, lo, these many years ago).You may need to hit the forums to figure out how to do this or that, but when the game is working as it should, it is fast, gorgeous, and a metric ton of fun.

Spy Fox 2 Review

...and what a fun show it is! Humongous' titles are all entertaining, but what distinguishes Spy Fox for me is that the humor works for adults and kids alike, and the characters are so vivid and lively. While the freshnessof the concept probably puts "Dry Cereal," the first in theseries, ahead of this sequel, my kids and I enjoyed this one for quite along time. Napoleon LaRoach, the evil villain bent on world domination inthis episode, is an absolute scream -- picture Herbert Lom at his PinkPanther demented best -- and the plot and puzzles are great. Our kids werejust within the target range -- 3-8 for most, 5-10 for Spy Fox -- when webought our first Humongous title, and now they're pushing the higher end ofthe range, and they still enjoy them. This release is an excellent exampleof why.

Taz Wanted Review

There are some who say this is a game for youngsters. To them i say PHOOEY. This game is like performing brain surgery on Jon Lovitz. Confusing and frustrating. However, that is the charm. Its' simple graphics and 3d platform charm bring to todays 'family friendly' games a glimmer of hope. You see, it's not TOO complicated or frustrating. After you've made it past the first few training levels. The training levels, in a word, stink. The boss levels are creative. Of course, grabbing Yosimite sam and throwing him into the game was a real treat. Perfectly hostile that man is. You've got an interesting twist of plot at the end of the game that is both humorous and downright strange. Taz has fewer funny comments than i'd like too see. He needed a little more speech. My favorite Taz line "Why for you bury me in the cold cold ground?". I don't know why, it's just funny. Anyway, plentiful levels with nice and moderate to very difficult puzzles, a few very funny 'movie' parodies..ie : Raiders of the lost ark / Star wars / Some Clint Eastwood remarks as well..etc... Some need for very nimble fingers. Action, Action, Action. Lots of extra levels to unlock and play over and over again. Great game. Just let yourself get used to the occasionally clunky controls, and you'll have a blast with this one. Good luck, and, happy hunting!

As a kid of the 80s, I lived and breathed Pac-Man.I couldn't get enough of the pellet chomping and ghost devouring.This 21st century version of Pac-Man is a spectacular adaptation of a game that never goes out of style.
For starters, the graphics are outstanding.The game's open is one of the few game opens I truly enjoy watching.While one of the basic objectives of the game is to avoid the ghosts, there are also other distractions to avoid like alligators, boulders, and snakes, all of which make the game that much more challenging.The mazes are superbly designed.The first maze caught my eye since the layout is the same as the first maze on the original Pac-Man.The bonus rounds, like a river run and a variation of Concentration, are a change of pace but they do not take away from the overall enjoyment of the game.In short, Pac-Man:Adventures in Time is a definite must get game.

Although DiD release both of these sims, and the two share a common look you won't mistake for something either more comprehensive (Jane's F-15) or less (Novalogic's F-22), each remains worthwhile even when you've got the other.
To cut it down, in F-22, you fly the F-22, the next generation of American superfighter - a twin engine, super-cruising wonder.The EF2000 is built by a consortium of European companies (excluding the French who built the Rafale).EF2000 is smaller and lighter, though not as overpowered, heavily armed or as stealthy as the American plane.Both planes "super-cruise" (fly supersonic without setting their engines on "afterburner" or - as real EF2000 drivers would say, "Reheat".) and rely on next generation sensors.In each, you can shut down your radar (which is better at revealibg your position than detecting the enemy) and rely on a data link from an AWACS (An American "Sentry" in either USAF or RAF livery; I've yet to see a "Nimrod"), but you'll end getting shot at nonetheless.While neither of these sims will ever make it to the "hardcore" category owned by flight sims like "Flanker 2.0", "Falcon 4.0" or "Jane's F/A-18", each of F-22 and EF2000 offer more fluid and convincing flight dynamics than arcade-like sims like those by Novalogic ("F-16:MRF" as well as Novalogic's own F-22 sims) or survey sims like those of the "Jane's Fighters" series.(The challenge of flight is more pronounced on EF2000 - that plane has high angle-of-attack performance, but is comparably underpowered next to F-22; in aerodynamics terms, that allows its greener pilots to get into a jam as often as similarly ham-handed F-22 drivers, but slimmer opportunities to get out of one).Although both planes have gobs more power than even the
F-16 (the plane you're most likely to have flown if you've ever flown a flight sim), DiD manages to stick in details that remidn you that you're strapped to a heavy and high-powered hunk of metal.(When you taxi, your airplane lopes on its oleo struts like a raft on a choppy river).Both planes have highly detailed flight panels built around several multi-function displays.I preferred the EF2000 flight panel which was more crowded.(I figure, if it's more complicated, it's probably more realistic; also, the guys who developed the F-22 panel don't really do anything with all of the extra "space" they've created, and they simply just have the same buttons on each of the same MFDs - mostly those dealing with F-22's "auto-EMCON" feature.)Sound affects distinguish the nationality of each plane ("Weakest Link" MC Anne Robinson's sexier clone is the voice of the EF2000 flight computer; an appropriately American voice warns you when somebody has locked radars on you).AI seems spotty in F-22 (I tore into a squadron of Su-27 Flankers that remained in rock-hard formation, even when some of their number began to shred and burn; some unmaneauverable MiG-27 and Su-25 fighter-bombers showed much more agressive skills), but the enemy of EF2000 appeared uniformly muderous in their proficiency - a reminder of the guys who made life miserable in the original EF2000.A lot about EF2000 v2 is reminescent of the original - though the new game offers support for hardware acceleration and both run under Win 95 and higher.(The older game came on the cusp of win95, but remained playable only in DOS).My Savage 4 card wasn't supported, making the game look little better than an upgrade of the original EF2000, but it was worth it to fly the F-22 using the flight-sim engine from that game, which had always been a favorite.
Some caveats - if you've already got the original EF2000, I'd recommend that you forego the new game and get "Total Air War" - an expanded version of F-22 using a fully dynamic campaign generator.Also, I was a bit dissappointed by the rudimentary cockpit on "F-22", having already seen the "click-able" cockpit on the otherwise inferior "iF-22".I ran this game on my P4 with few problems, and none involving WinXP compatibility.

Even if you're new to this game, a quick overlook at the game'sfeatures will get you going. But even a quick look won't satisfy you withthis very addicting game. I can guarantee that you'll want to play this allday and night.
Creating your own ride is very fun. Make all the drops,vertical loops, etc. you want. But be careful to keep within the budgetrange! Sounds hard? First of all this is an arcade game.Players of the card game be warned.This is nothing like "magic the gathering" but rather a quick-paced button-clicker that relies mostly on your reflexes to succeed but has a fair amount of strategy to it as well.Oh and, the "spells" your wizard uses have names that will be familiar to you, if you played the card game...
I had to buy a game controller (only $15) to really appreciate this game, due to the extreme manual dexterity required to do well at all the fast paced action.Still it took me more than 15 hours of playing the "quest" and "arcade" modes before I really got the hang of this game.Up until that point there were some very frustrating "quests" that seemed impossible until I spent the hours to train my reflexes and learn the strategies.
Once you master the Quest mode however, it is a rewarding experience to create your own collection of spells then go online to compete live with other players.Playing against other people is a real challenge so expect to lose quite a few games until you adjust to the new strategies being used.

This game is absolutely awesome! You go back in time through a time-teleporter, and hunt dinosaurs for people who want them. Some missions include getting a dead Tyrannosaurus rex for a guy who wants it's head, killing a Styracosaurus for a Chinese-food retaurant, getting live Utahraptors for a research center, and many, many, many (many many many) more. This game is really suspenseful, sometimes, when your hunting a dinosaur, you get stalked by a raptor, troodon, or an occasional T-rex. They growl when they get close by, so you know it's coming, but you dont exactly know when. It's a BIG surprise when you get attacked. I almost had a heart-attack when a utah raptor jumped me. The dino's in this game are Quetzalcoatlus, Triceratops, Styracosaurus, Gastonia, Utahraptor, Troodon, Iguanadon, Lambeosaurus and T-rex. The only bad thing about this game is that after you play about 2 missions, it goes back to your computer desktop and you have to re-boot the game.

Boarder Zone is the best looking snowboarding game yet. This game's designers have given remarkable attention to detail. This is a decent game. It plays well, and is somewhat addictive. You basically have to colonize a planet, using its resources to build the population AND armies, while keeping the peace. Scrabble Complete (Jewel Case) Review

I bought the Atari-branded version of Scrabble Complete hoping they had fixed the problems in the 'Hasbro' version.

Nope. It seems to be the same item, no improvement at all.

Scrabble Complete is a sadly flawed Scrabble program. It has some great features, some surprising omissions, and a lot of awful, killer bugs.

For example, in Windows XP SP2 (perhaps elsewhere, don't know), it will blank the screen while you're playing, and only reveal parts as you scroll over them. Very annoying.

The dictionary lookup is poor--it misses obvious extensions of words that are valid. That's a terrible flaw in a reference tool.

It requires you to keep the CD in the drive (copy protection, likely), so your laptop battery runs out fast (bad for 16 hour flights).

Accessing the dictionary to look up words is awkward. It should be a up-front menu command/button. You must go several levels deep to even find it.

There are lots of great features I won't go into, because the flaws make this an exasperating program.

Too bad Hasbro, which restricts use of the Scrabble name, can't manage to get a better Scrabble program out on the market. I'd pay real money to buy one if it were available.

NWN is still a great game, thanks to the huge number of high-quality modules available for free on the Internet.I have never seen a computer RPG with as much replay value.Even the impending release of its sequel doesn't detract from it much.After all, it will take quite a while before NWN2 has anything close to the amount of free content available as NWN does.

But why would anybody choose at this point to purchase the Platinum DVD Edition?The Diamond Edition includes all the same content, plus a few extra "Premium" modules.And its "new" pricing on Amazon is actually lower than the less complete Platinum Edition.

If your computer has no DVD drive, then you might choose to buy the Platinum CD Edition, since the Diamond Edition is only on DVD.Also, if you are buying used, there is a slight price advantage to going with Platinum.

Terminator 3: The Redemption Review

This game may be one of the best Terminator games ever made. If you have any love for the Terminator franchise you would stop reading this review right now and go pick it up. What makes this game stand out is that you actually have Arnold as the Terminator. No puny sound alikes (although his voice changes a little during some levels). The stuff that makes the game really enjoyable is the atmosphere: fighting a war in a future apocalyptic LA, car chases through a grave yard, fighting the TXreally makes you feel like you are in the movie. Speaking of the movie the intro level has huge part to do with the T3 flick, its worth that for the price alone if you are a Terminator fan like I am. The sound and visuals are all top notch, heck even the Terminator has battle damage(when the level starts , your T-850 doesnt have a scratch on him , but if you take a few critical hits you'll be able to see your Endo-skeleton. cool!) The down part of this game is that its tougher than a $3 dollar steak. Some levels will really test your patience(especially the last one,sheesh!). Another downside is no replay-abillity after you've completed the game. There is a co-op game featured on here too, but it only has 3 levels which can be tough to play. All in all though this game is a action/shooter on rails, with driving and chase levels/scenes just like in the movies. I think this game is the spiritual successor to the T2: the Arcade game, Arnold even uses some of his one liners from there in here, never gets old to hear him say "Excellent", "Terminated" or my new favorite: "Talk to the hand". If youre like me and need to get your Anti Skynet campaign on, this game will not dissapoint.

F/A 18 Operation Iraqi Freedom (Jewel Case) Review

The other negative reviewers for this game would find their problems solved if they just downloaded the v1.01 patch from graphsim.com. I've run this sim on several different systems, and the patch solves all the conflicts I've run into.

Pro: Currently, this is the only combat flight sim with photo-realistic scenery based on real-world satelite imagery. This adds a whole new dimension to combat flight-simming, and is the reason for the long installation times. In my opinion, it is well worth the wait.

Pro: GraphSim's F/A-18 series continues to be the most realistic Hornet sim available. The flight modelling is impeccable, the weapons systems very realistic. You can easily adjust the difficulty level from simple arcade-style (where you only use a few keystrokes to operate all the systems) to fully realistic (which uses the entire keyboard to operate almost everything on the actual aircraft).

Pro/Con: Opinions vary on the new 3D cockpit. Some folks still prefer the older style 2D cockpit, but GraphSim has done an admirable job in integrating photo-realistic detail from their 2D cockpit into their new 3D cockpit. In-cockpit motion simulation is a new and fascinating touch as the pilot gets jostled around when jinking the aircraft.

Cons: The users manual (on the CD) appears to be abridged from previous GraphSim manuals.But it is still quite extensive compared to other sim manuals.Air Traffic Control (ATC) is still very minimal and is starting to show it's age. But it gets the job done. And there is something to be said for its simplicity.

Conclusion: All-in-all a great Hornet sim. The full-time 3D cockpit is not for everyone, but the photo-realistic scenery makes this sim stand out on its own accord.

F-22 Air Dominance Fighter Review

This is a great game, but there are a few things to consider before buying it.
It seems like there were dozens of flight sim games based on the F-22, though that's only because their publishers each released patched versions and sequels in rapid succession, each making evolutionary improvements to the older versions."F-22/ADF" was the early version of DiD's F-22 game, lacking the AWACS component of its sequel, TAW ("Total Air War").For a game that was rushed into production (DiD didn't want the missing AWACS component to cause the company lag behind publishers of inferior F-22 games) ADF still tops the competition.Featuring DiD's no-nonensense graphics, sound and flight model (the game is a welcome middle-ground between crude "survey sims" like ATF or USNF, and more complicated "hardcore games" like "Flanker 2.5" or Jane's Longbw), ADF is a game you'll find easy to get into and hard to put down.Though the game shows its roots to EF2000, the power differences between F-22 (with its thrust vectoring, and much more powerful engines) and EF2000 translates to an F-22 that's much easier to fly.On the down side, F-22's avionics suite is confined to three MFD's, not unlike EF2000, but a come down after the mouse-clickable cockpit of "iF-22".Also, when compared to EF2000, much of the avionics seems redundant (three different buttons handle the same job) as if the F-22 design team realized that they had more space than they knew what to do with.
The biggest downside of all is the missing AWACS element, in which you run an air war from your seat on a command plane like teh E-3, able to jump into any F-22 on your board if you want to get up close and personal.For that, you'll need to get TAW.Since TAW includes the F-22 sim, and isn't an add-on for ADF, the earlier game is pretty superfluous.
Another problem is graphics, which are great, but imperfect - especially if you want to run better than 800X600.While teh game supports graphics acceleration, it probably requires a Glide compliant card - this is an old game - and I haven't been able to get it to run in real 3d on my "Open GL" system.Like many old games, it suffers the dominance of an earlier age in which the top ards were made by 3DFX.
Still, if you can pick this game up, you'll still have one of the better F-22 simulations.

Risk II Review

This version by Atari is pretty bad.The sound cannot be shut off even if you select that option.The game terminates suddenly by itself for no apparent reason and Atari/Hasbro/Microprose does Not have a patch.Every now and again, a computer player is able to move troops across several countries, say from Australia to Europe. Even in fast mode, there is still so much animation in each dice throw that the game is very very slow....figure 10 to 15 secs per dice roll - and there are A LOT of dice rolls. The AI is mediocre and it occasionally does some strange things.

I hope an improved version comes out that allows for short fast games with little or no animations.

Unreal Tournament Review

I played the Quake III arena game online in it's testing phases but haven't played anything like it before or since. Then I saw this game and saw the similarities between the two so I bought it. The games are nearly identical, in play and in design. Unreal's graphics are outstanding, the use of lighting sets the mood for each level and the detail of the weapons fire is really remarkable. Once you fire a shot you can see it's path all the way to the opposite end of the room that you are in. The game play does take some getting used to but you can customize the skill level. This game really deserves it's Mature rating. If you hit your opponent with a rocket, for instance, he explodes into bloody pieces right before your eyes! There is a way to turn this feature off for the faint of heart or for the parents of younger gamers. In my opinion this game is worth the money and gets a "Worth a Buy!" from me.
